AIA Portland’s Committee on the Environment’s Green Champions Summit will tackle the city of the future with a focus on integrated thinking and approaches to sustainable design on October 17th at 5:30 pm at Vestas headquarters in Portland, OR. We will take a rare look at how sustainable design impacts the urban scale. Nico Larco from the University of Oregon will frame the conversation of integration between a variety of scales and disciplines.
Speakers will illustrate:
- The integration of designers and community members can create district-size sustainable initiatives to fight climate change;
- neighborhood-scale systems for sharing resources within a community to meet current and future resource demands in energy, water, and other resources;
- and that the future must reach beyond sustainability and create district systems that are accessible, educational, and beautiful to celebrate green and healthy cities.
These ideas, combined with the idea of a community-wide integrated approach to city design, will generate compelling conversation as Portland continues to grow at a fast pace. Following the presentations, we will facilitate an interactive discussion with the attendees and speakers focused on the city of the future.
