Education is a Key to Growth

Those of you installing pavers know that there is a lot of competition out there and in order to win a job, you need to differentiate yourself from the others. For this to happen, a lot of factors come into play, such as price, availability, quality of one’s portfolio, and customer rapport.

However, time and again we talk to homeowners at our branches who tell us they don’t just want a paver job installed at the lowest price, but they want it done right. This where a contractor can really separate themselves from the competition. Many of you agree with this point and have asked for educational opportunities.

Well we heard you and now we are offering two different ICPI classes in November in Bellevue, WA. These classes probably won’t be available again until next year, so we encourage you to take advantage of this training opportunity.

ICPI Concrete Paver Installer Certification Class

First, is the ICPI Concrete Paver Installer course, which runs November 10th – 11th. This is a two-day classroom course designed to enhance the knowledge of those individuals installing pavers in either residential or commercial projects. By attending the class and passing the exam you receive certification from ICPI that you have the necessary knowledge and follow the industry guidelines required to install concrete pavers.

ICPI Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavements (PICP) Specialist Course

Also on November 10th, we will be conducting a PICP Specialist course. This is a one-day course is designed for contractors who are currently installing concrete pavers and looking to move into the field of permeable interlocking pavers. Passing the exam certifies that you have the knowledge to install permeable pavers correctly and gives you access to the support provided by ICPI like, technical literature, marketing materials, and opportunities for professional development. This course is also eligible for 7 Continuing Education credits.

Both classes will be held at the Master Builders Association of King County at 335 116th Ave SE, Bellevue, WA 98004. It is important to note that both classes run simultaneously so you can only register for one or the other. In the past companies have enrolled new employees in the basic paver installation class and have sent more seasoned employees to the PICP class.

In addition to separating yourself from the competition, education helps to strengthen the hardscape industry overall. Mutual Materials looks forward to hosting next month’s ICPI certification courses and we look forward to seeing many of our hardscape customers there.
