A Hidden Gem Away From The City | North Bend, WA | Mutual Materials

Building a custom home is an aspiration for many of us. Taking an empty plot of land and designing a house that is personalized to all of your needs provides peace of mind to homeowners that are exhausted with competing with other bidders for a house they may not even love. If you’re fortunate enough to build a custom home there are many choices you need to make it truly yours. This is an example of how one family built a home using a variety of materials to make their dream a reality.

This stunning home tucked away in the quiet woods of North Bend, Washington allowed the homeowners to design a customized house that blends in with the surrounding environment and incorporate the aesthetic exactly how they wanted it. Fortunately for us, part of the owners’ vision involved the use masonry and hardscape products from Mutual Materials.

Let’s start with the home itself. Naturally, the use of wood (both planks and logs), is prominent throughout the interior and exterior, helping the house blend in with the neighboring forest. However, the owners chose Aspen Cultured Stone, from Westlake Royal Stone Solutions, in variety of styles to complete the look. A large wainscoting surrounding the first floor of the residence comprised of Country Ledgestone, provides a rustic appearance using ledgestone of different sizes that mimics natural stone pulled from a quarry. This look is carried out through the home’s entryway, interior and fireplace, but some Dressed Fieldstone was mixed in, adding some more triangular shapes for a slightly varied appearance. The same two stone shapes were also used for the outdoor fireplace off the upper deck.

Outside of the house, concrete pavers and retaining walls were used to complete an outdoor living space that allows the owners to enjoy a space that’s both beautiful and functional. Along the side of the home, a Northwest Blend Dominion Slate walkway extends to the driveway providing an appropriate contrast to the wood on the side of the home. The finishing touch on this space is a large Old Dominion Circle Kit patio in two colors, surrounded by additional Old Dominion Squares and Rectangles to connect to the walkway. A TuscanStone seating wall abuts the circular patio providing ample room for guests to enjoy the fire pit.
