The “World’s Best Bricklayer” will be crowned in January!
Bricklaying is a construction craft that has been around for thousands of years. Going back to the Great Wall of China and the Roman Colosseum, masons have been building masonry structures that have stood the test of time. Throughout the centuries the technology has improved but the bricklaying fundamentals have essentially stayed the same; requiring patience, foresight, and a steady hand.
It is an underappreciated craft, but there are masons all around the country who are experts in their field. However, there is an event where masons get to showcase their skills and compare themselves to the best of the best.
Back for its 21st season, the Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 pits the North America’s top masons against each other for the title of World’s Best Bricklayer at the World of Concrete Expo in Las Vegas on January 18th, 2023. But to get there, contestants need to win one of 22 regional qualifiers.
Mutual Materials is excited to be a part of the Western Regional Series coming up on Saturday, August 27th at the Western Washington Masonry Trades Building in Seattle. We are donating the brick for the competition where masons have one hour to build a 26-foot-long brick wall with as few errors as possible; testing their speed, skill, and stamina. The Bricklayer 500 kicks off at 11:00 am and Junior Bricklayer 500 follows shortly after at 12:30 pm.
The Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 is a very exciting contest designed to create interest from a new generation of masons in the rewards and opportunities possible in masonry construction.
