For more than 100 years, Mutual Materials has worked hard to become the Pacific Northwest's leader in masonry and hardscape manufacturing. During this century, we have made the commitment to manage our Company operations with an eye to best environmental practices. Through our action as a company we intend to influence in a positive and unmistakable way the communities in which Mutual Materials customers and employees live and work. Through our products, we want to help the community pay the positive influence forward by helping to create projects of low-environmental impact. Additionally, we believe it is important to share with our customers the environmental benefits of our manufactured products.

Sustainability in our Products

Brick
Mutual Materials was founded on one of the world’s oldest green products. Produced from clay, shale, and water, brick has a lifespan over 100 years, making it one of the most sustainable building products. And with sustainability comes durability. Brick’s composition makes it fireproof, insect-proof, and resistant to wind and water. Brick is also 100% recyclable, emits virtually no pollutants, and contributes to energy savings by being a natural insulator.

Permeable Pavers
Permeable paver systems filter stormwater directly back into the soil preventing runoff from carrying pollutants into our storm drains. Their structural integrity combined with their functionality makes them an ideal choice for reducing pollution, erosion, and heat-island effect in roads, parking lots, ports, and driveways.

Segmental Retaining Walls
Our retaining wall block plants all employ the use of crushers to recycle all excess materials and defective product, grinding it up into fine aggregates for use in future product. Because of the actions our segmental retaining wall blocks may contain up to 20% recycled material.

To the left we have several case studies citing examples of how our products were able to make our world a little greener.
