North Creek High School | Bothell, WA | Mutual Materials

Completed in 2016, North Creek High School, Home of the Jaguars, in Bothell, Washington was ready to open for the 2017 school year. Commissioned by the Northshore School District, the firm of Dykeman Architecture & Design, conceptualized the 250,000 square foot campus to be built on a 61-acre site.

In response to explosive growth at the north end of Lake Washington, the new school accommodates 1,600 students and bolsters the curriculum with a focus towards STEM. Sustainability was a focus of the project, with a goal of having “deep green” elements. This included significant water and energy conservation, as well as the sustainable sourcing of materials, prioritizing locally-sourced materials to minimize carbon footprint impacts.

North Creek High School was designed to be a collaborative space where teachers and students can interact. The integration of disciplines is centered around project-based and problem-based learning, while the campus is considered to be an ultra-green learning lab for both the students and the surrounding community. The school consists of three two-story structures comprised of flexible learning spaces, a central commons/cafeteria, gymnasium, and a performing arts center with a wall-to-wall tension grid system and retractable seating.

Face brick is often chosen for schools for a variety of reasons; it’s low-maintenance, fireproof, insect-proof, and will withstand the outdoor elements for decades. In addition, brick comes in virtually every color, allowing architects and designers to realize their visual aesthetic. Mutual Materials was thrilled to be the brick supplier for North Creek High School, providing Pewter and Coal Creek 448s for the veneer throughout the project.

Cornerstone General Contractors was the general contractor, spearheading the project and the mason contractor was R&D Masonry.
