Did You Miss Hardscape North America?

Hardscape North America Installer Competition Winning Project

Louisville, KY – October 19-21, 2022 – If you didn’t attend Hardscape North America last month, you missed out on an amazing opportunity to improve your hardscape business.

Hardscape North America (HNA) is the most comprehensive industry event for hardscape contractors, dealers, and landscape professionals, put on by the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) and the National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA). This year there were over 3,600 attendees and 186 exhibitors at the three-day expo to network and share information on best practices, profits, and market trends.

Highlighting the event were both the annual HNA awards and the Installer Championship. The 2022 Hardscape North America Awards Ceremony on October 20th, recognized projects across a variety of 18 categories including, concrete pavers, segmental retaining walls, clay pavers, natural stone, porcelain slabs, and outdoor living spaces. This year there was a record 204 projects submitted for consideration!

The Installer Championship is a competition where teams from across the country race against the clock to install a concrete paver patio. It tests the knowledge of industry guidelines and installation skills to determine who is the best installer in the nation. This year there were 12 teams competing for the title over the course of two days. The teams had to be creative and incorporate their own design to stand out from the others.

(Competitors) have 90 minutes to complete an area at least sixty-four square feet. The projects were amazing with intricate cuts, interesting patterns, and unique elevations. Given the time limits contestants have to move very fast and coordinate with each other with great communication.

Sales and Marketing Director, Mutual Materials

Two local teams deserve recognition for their representation of Pacific Northwest hardscape industry. Clearwater Summit Group out of Spokane, sponsored by Mutual Materials, finished Fourth, with a design paying homage to Kentucky bourbon. However, the winner of the competition was Shovel & Thumb out of Ridgefield, Washington, who created a stunning display incorporating Asian symbols for earth and sky. Congratulations to both teams!

If you are a hardscape installer, estimator, manufacturer, or dealer we strongly encourage you to attend next year’s HNA, October 18 – 20 in Louisville, to network and educate yourself on the latest industry happenings. Check HNA’s website for early bird pricing.
